Hello Anglers, We've had a ok pick of fluke this week with fish up to 5lbs but not as good a bite as last week. the blue fish continue to rule the sound and at any given time you can limit out with cocktails and bigger fish up to 10lbs with little effort. We will continue the trips for fluke this week but, when the bite slows we will be jigging blues. Tuesday evening trip is chartered 8/31 and on labor day we will be sailing "OPEN BOAT FULL DAY " looking to finish the season up with some doormats this will be the day to settle our fluke derby and we will have a special fare ($10 off for derby entries)! For the derby entries that day, also while fishing for the winner we will hold a 'Sea Robin Derby' for the biggest and the most caught ending the day with a BBQ ( family and friends are invited, byob ;) at the dock. So come on down and join in the fun! Call to get a good spot at the rail on labor day! ********************************************************** Date: 8-22-04 From: Lobster Man, <Lobsterrock2000@yahoo.com> Subject: Sea Otter West! Hello Anglers, The fluke and blue bite continues to stay very good in the west end. This week we saw fluke to 7.5 lbs. slam the deck and blues to 9.5 lbs. come over the rail. We've been getting out on all of our trips. Wed. we worked the rocky areas to the bridge and had plenty of 18-21" fluke to go around with Nick of City Island taking the pool with a 5 lb' er. Wed. night blues, 34 out of the 36 fares limited out with fish to 7.5 lbs., Justin with the pool winner. Thurs. morning everyone had 2-3 fish with Butch taking the pool of 4 lbs. Thurs. afternoon we saw plenty of action with many fish weighing in around the 3-4 lb. mark. Friday morning "Radio Joe" bagged his limit and took the pool with a 3.10 lb fluke. Fri. afternoon the best of the week with Patty and TR tying the pool with two 5.2 lb flatties and 6 keepers a pc., only keeping their limit, and among the rest 5-4 lbs. and 5-3 plus lbs. most limiting out. Fri. night all the action on jigs with everyone getting in the action but the night bite was a little slow with fish to 6 lbs. Sat. morning another good bite Patrick, a first timer, ending up with a 7.5 lb. doormat taking the pool. Uncle Frank mopping up with 5 fish to 4.5 lbs. only keeping his limit and a good pick of 3-4 lb. fish. Saturday afternoon things were quite but the rain stirred up a bite for a while and we ended up with a few fish at the end of the trip. Saturday night the Blue fish action was non stop all night with fish to 9.5 lbs. taken and everyone easily catching twice their limit only keeping a few for dinner. Sunday both trips we saw a slow pick with anglers going home with 1-3 fish. We would like everyone to know we are chartered on Fri. night 8/27/04 and Saturday 8/28/04, all day, but will be open on our other scheduled trips. With WICC coming up we still have the six pack boat available and will be sailing open on Sat. night 8/28 so call to get a spot. ********************************************************** Date: 8-15-04 From: Lobster Man, <Lobsterrock2000@yahoo.com> Subject: Sea Otter West! Hey Anglers, Mon NT. all the blue fish 5 fares could handle over 100 fish and back to the dock by 8:30pm, only keeping a few for the dinner plate and the pool went TR with a 5 lb. fish. Tues. Steve and Steve out on a light tackle trip and managed 50 blues from 2 lbs. - 10 lbs. keeping there poles bent the whole trip. Tues. NT. a few fluke on the boat to 2 lbs. but slow, so we baited some blue to 7 lbs. with Andrew taking home the pool fish. Wed. started out jigging blues to 8 lbs. and then switched over to fluke working west picked some fish to 3lbs with Luke being high hook for the day. Wed. NT. over 50 cocktails taken on jigs and as the sun went down we went to bait and saw 30 fish hit the decks to 7.5 lbs., Louie winning the pool. Thurs. two light tackle trips, in the morning Nicky "crumbs" pulled a sweet 25 lb. Bass out of a school of bunker to start the day and then he and his partner slayed the blues on plugs and live bunker to 9 lbs. Thurs. NT, again we pulled blue fish with jigs to 4 lbs. and then went to fluke, had a slow pick but most anglers went home with fish. Fri. tried some local spots on both trips found some fluke bunched up on short drifts but are slowest day for the week. Fri. NT. 20 blue fish to 7 lbs. early in the NT. but as the sun set the bite slowed only picking a few fish at dark. Sat. we worked to the east off Lloyd's on both trips with Shelly putting the 3.8 lb. pool fish on the boat in the morning and Harold having a 3 lb. pool winner in the afternoon, but with the 18" reg. in effect there were some keepers but at least fifteen 17 1/2" fish released. With the new 'Regs.' on fluke we will start bottom fishing on our full day trip and add more full days as the fishing progresses, but we will still be fluking concentrating hard on big fish. ********************************************************** Date: 8-03-04 From: Lobster Man, <Lobsterrock2000@yahoo.com> Subject: Sea Otter West! Glenn and Crew kept the anglers in blues all NT.with the pool weighing in at 5.5lbs. Thursday we enjoyed sailing our first trip with Brian and his gang from the LU HI fishing camp, Good job kids! Thursday NT. again a tough pick, worked areas from 9' to 50' managed some nice size fish with Steve Powers bringing the winner in at 3 lbs. Friday the a.m. trip was pretty good with some anglers taking home 3 fish but most with one or two, the afternoon slowed down. Friday NT. Mike Cap and the crew from Glen Floors of Glen Cove had a great blue fish bite with fish hitting the decks to 12 lbs. honors going to Anthony for that giant! Sat. Charlie and his crew from the VFW had a nice day with a mixed bag, jigging blues to 9 lbs. and fluking with the pool fish weighing in at 3 lbs. Thanks everyone for a super day. On the light tackle front Capt. Joby and the Sea Otter Crew have been sharing in the action all week with a very good bass bite with fish to 15 lbs. in the evening and good blues during the day all taken on top water plugs with 12 yr. old John "High Hook" Malon taking the biggest blue of 7 lb. on Tues. and Capt.
